Mimecast updates platform to protect human and AI risk
Mimecast announced new platform capabilities designed to protect the highest-risk users and the Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools that access sensitive data, citing a shift in which AI agents and automated workflows were scaling across organizations and placing the human layer at the center of security controls.
Mimecast referenced findings from The State of Human Risk 2026 showing that 98% of organizations now used AI to defend against threats, 80% reported concern about sensitive data exposure through Generative AI (GenAI) tools, and 60% lacked strategies to address AI-driven threats, while the number of actively deployed AI agents worldwide was set to grow over the coming years.
The company described technical enhancements that included adaptive security controls that adjusted based on individual user risk, AI-powered investigation agents that synthesized events and recommended actions, and streamlined incident response workflows that reduced reported-message resolution times by 78%; its platform correlated signals across email, endpoint, identity, data, GenAI, and third-party tools and offered API-based deployment of its full detection stack without MX record changes.
Mimecast also detailed protections for sensitive data and threat detection across the platform, including Incydr Data Protection to limit exposure to unsanctioned AI tools, Multi-Vector Threat Protection with 99.998% detection accuracy, and enhanced Business Email Compromise (BEC) protection that detected impersonation and social engineering across 20 languages with quarterly detection improvements of more than 5%.
“Every AI agent, every automated workflow ultimately depends on a human to direct it, approve its actions, and govern its behavior,” said Ranjan Singh, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Mimecast. “That means the enterprise AI era will not be secured by isolated tools or static policies. It requires a connected platform that can understand behavior, detect risk, protect sensitive data, and adapt controls in real time. That is exactly where Mimecast is focused.”
The enhanced platform capabilities were available to Mimecast customers across deployment options.
