Lumentum selected as NVIDIA silicon photonics ecosystem partner for AI networking

Lumentum Holdings Inc. contributed high-power lasers for NVIDIA's silicon photonics ecosystem. This partnership focuses on the development of NVIDIA Spectrum-X Photonics networking switches, integrating Lumentum's technologies to address power consumption challenges in Artificial Intelligence (AI) infrastructure.

NVIDIA’s newly announced Spectrum-X Photonics and Quantum-X Photonics switches leverage photonic innovations to enhance efficiency and resilience in AI Operations (AIOps). In doing so, these advancements support the transition from copper to photonic interconnects.

Wupen Yuen, Lumentum's President of Cloud and Networking Technology and Product, noted that reducing power consumption will enable larger AI installations. He expressed optimism about further innovations through collaboration with NVIDIA, aiming to enhance AI infrastructure scalability.
