Lumentum Selected as an NVIDIA Silicon Photonics Ecosystem Partner to Advance AI Networking at Scale
Lumentum Holdings Inc. has been selected as a contributor to NVIDIA’s silicon photonics ecosystem. The company will provide high-efficiency lasers for NVIDIA’s newly announced Spectrum-X Photonics networking switches. This partnership is aimed at enhancing Artificial Intelligence (AI) infrastructure and addressing power consumption challenges in AI data center.
NVIDIA’s new Spectrum-X and Quantum-X Photonics networking switches incorporate photonic innovations to reduce power consumption, increase resilience, and enable quicker deployment. Wupen Yuen, President of Cloud and Networking Technology and Product at Lumentum, stated, “Innovations that drastically lower networking power consumption will expand the market for photonic components, supporting larger AI installations.”
Lumentum is known for its high-performance indium phosphide laser solutions, which complement its existing electro-absorption modulated lasers. This technology underpins many of the current optical transceivers utilized in cloud and AI data center.
Gilad Shainer, Senior Vice President of Networking at NVIDIA, remarked on the collaboration, emphasizing that photonic switch technology will advance new AI factories. This partnership signifies the potential for significant scalability within the AI industry.
