Lumentum and Marvell demonstrate integrated 450G optical interface at OFC 2025

Lumentum and Marvell Technology, Inc. have partnered to demonstrate an integrated 450G high-speed optical interface, showcasing advancements in optical technology. The demonstration will occur at the 2025 Optical Fiber Communications Conference and Exhibition (OFC), highlighting a significant step in supporting Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) applications cloud infrastructure.

This industry-first demonstration integrates Marvell’s 400G per lane PAM4 technology, operating at 225 Gbaud, with Lumentum’s indium phosphide (InP) monolithically-integrated distributed feedback (DFB) optical transmitter. This configuration showcases advantages in bandwidth and power efficiency over traditional silicon photonics architectures.

The combined efforts illustrate readiness for the next generation of optical transceivers, essential for data-centric workloads. Matt Sysak, Lumentum's CTO of Cloud and Networking, stated, “Lumentum’s collaboration with Marvell marks our joint commitment to pushing the boundaries of 400G per lane technology innovation.”

Xi Wang, vice president and general manager at Marvell, noted that these advancements will support increased bandwidth capacity and efficiency in future data center, enabling enhanced connectivity for various applications.
