Lantronix launches Open-Q 8550CS System-on-Module for Edge AI applications

Lantronix Inc. has introduced the Open-Q 8550CS System-on-Module, powered by Qualcomm’s Dragonwing QCS8550 processor. This production-ready module is designed to support the development of industrial Edge Artificial Intelligence (AI) devices while offering low-power, on-device AI and Machine Learning (ML) capabilities.

The Open-Q 8550CS aims to simplify the design and accelerate the release of innovative edge products for areas such as smart warehousing, manufacturing, transportation, logistics, and retail. It features a range of capabilities tailored for demanding Edge computing tasks, including video collaboration, transcoding, and integration with Edge AI gateways.

Qualcomm Technologies’ collaboration with Lantronix has been noted for helping deliver integrated solutions that bolster the success of Internet of Things (IoT) and Edge AI technologies. Suri Maddhula, vice president at Qualcomm Technologies Inc., emphasized the importance of this partnership in enhancing advanced-edge application developments.

The Open-Q 8550CS SOM targets higher AI and ML requirements typical in extreme Edge environments. It boasts features including a Kryo octa-core Central Processing Unit (CPU), dual eNPU, and enterprise-level connectivity options, supporting a variety of high-performance applications.

Additionally, Lantronix provides an Open-Q 8550CS SOM Development Kit that facilitates easy evaluation of the module's features. This kit enables developers to test low-power AI capabilities in various scenarios, enhancing the speed of product development.
