EE becomes first operator to launch ARC technology

EE became the world’s first mobile operator to launch Advanced Radio Access Network (RAN) Coordination (ARC) technology in its distributed network.

This technology enhances 5G connectivity and achieves 20 percent faster download speeds, with EE’s 5G Standalone (SA) network users benefiting most.

To expand its network's reach, EE plans to roll out 5G SA to 17 additional towns and cities by December 2025, aiming to connect millions more customers.

ARC technology enables nearby mobile sites to pair and share capacity, increasing network performance, especially in high-traffic areas during peak times, without requiring more infrastructure.

Currently operational in cities like Manchester and Edinburgh, ARC allows for faster, more stable 5G connections at busy locations such as train stations and city centers.

EE intends to implement ARC across major UK cities, including London and Glasgow, improving services for customers using compatible 5G SA devices.

Greg McCall, Chief Networks Officer at BT Group, stated, “EE customers are the first in the world to benefit from this technology, with millions of them getting a huge boost to the 5G connectivity they rely on every day.”

EE targets making 5G SA available to over 41 million people by spring 2026, with plans to enrich coverage further in 17 new locations.

The next towns set to receive the upgraded service include Basildon, Brighton and Hove, Colchester, and others.

McCall added, “We are building our 5G standalone network at an unprecedented pace to connect customers, communities, and the country to the most reliable and powerful mobile experiences.”
