The Apache Software Foundation releases Apache Geode 2.0
The Apache Software Foundation released Apache Geode 2.0, a modernization of the Geode distributed in-memory data management platform intended to align the project with current Java enterprise standards and to restore ongoing security support.
The release updated runtime and build components to secure long-term support, security updates, and compatibility with modern application servers and frameworks; the project described these changes as supporting continued enterprise deployments.
Geode 2.0 upgraded its runtime to Java 17, moved the project to Jakarta EE 10, and adopted Gradle 7 for the build system. The release also upgraded Spring Framework to version 6, Spring Security to version 6, and Spring Shell to version 3, and it incorporated integrations with Apache HttpComponents 5, Apache Lucene 9, Eclipse Jetty 12, and Apache Tomcat 10+.
The release further modernized command-line and management tooling, improved compatibility with current servlet containers and modern security and Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) standards, and addressed numerous critical, high-, and medium-severity vulnerabilities across the codebase.
“This release is more than an upgrade—it is a full-scale transformation of Apache Geode,” said Jinwoo Hwang, Lead Developer, Project Lead, and Release Manager for Apache Geode. “Apache Geode 2.0 aligns the project with today’s Java enterprise ecosystem, restores ongoing security support, and positions the platform for long-term sustainability.”
The release materials included pointers to project documentation, downloads, and the source code repository on the project website and GitHub.
