Confluent Cloud expands capabilities for AI development

Confluent has introduced advanced features in Confluent Cloud for Apache Flink designed to enhance real-time Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications development. The updates include Flink Native Inference, which allows teams to execute AI models directly within the cloud platform, effectively streamlining workflows.

Flink search provides a single interface for querying multiple vector databases, facilitating data enrichment. In addition, new built-in Machine Learning (ML) functionalities enable users without data science expertise to leverage AI for analytical tasks.

Shaun Clowes, Chief Product Officer at Confluent, remarked on the complexity of developing real-time AI applications in the past, stating, “Building real-time AI applications has been too complex for too long, requiring a maze of tools and deep expertise just to get started. With the latest advancements in Confluent Cloud for Apache Flink, we’re breaking down those barriers.” He highlighted that the new capabilities allow for seamless integration of AI-powered streaming intelligence.

According to McKinsey, 92% of companies plan to boost their AI investments over the next three years, indicating a strong market push towards AI adoption. As the processes of managing ML models in fragmented environments can lead to inefficiencies, the features unveiled aim to simplify these workflows and enhance operational capabilities.

Steffen Hoellinger, Co-founder and CEO at Airy, acknowledged the impact of Confluent's platform on customer productivity, commenting, “Confluent’s data streaming platform with Flink AI Model Inference simplified our tech stack... providing real-time context for smarter AI agents.” This integration fosters improved enterprise operations.

Confluent Cloud is distinguished as a serverless stream processing solution unifying real-time and batch processing under one roof, alleviating the complexity that comes with traditional processing methods. These new features are currently available to customers in an early access program.

Additionally, Confluent has made strides to improve connectivity and access to real-time data with features like Tableflow and Freight Clusters. These advancements aim to bolster the efficiency of data handling and processing within enterprises as they navigate their digital transformations.
