Delinea completes acquisition of StrongDM

Delinea completed the acquisition of StrongDM, uniting enterprise Privileged Access Management (PAM) with just-in-time runtime authorization to address standing privilege in AI-driven environments for both human and non-human identities.

As organizations scale agentic Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation, privileged access is increasingly required by non-human identities that operate autonomously across hybrid and cloud-native environments, creating risks that static, credential-based models were not designed to govern.

The combined offering placed an identity security control plane at the center of access controls, with Delinea Iris AI enabling real-time policy evaluation and governance of privileged actions taken by human and non-human identities across modern infrastructure.

The integration pooled discovery and governance capabilities for identities across infrastructure, databases, containers, and Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, sought to reduce exposure to credential theft, phishing, and software supply chain attacks by minimizing persistent credentials, and provided centralized visibility, auditability, and enforcement for privileged actions by AI agents; financial terms were not disclosed.

“Standing and hard-coded privileges remain one of the largest sources of risk in modern, AI-driven environments,” said Adversarial Robustness Test (ART) Gilliland, CEO at Delinea. “The rise of agentic AI and non-human identities is accelerating operational workflows to machine speed, exposing the limits of static privilege models,” said Emanuel Figueroa, Senior Research Analyst at IDC.

Delinea said the acquisition established identity as the control plane for modern security, helping to ensure every privileged action taken by a human or machine identity was evaluated and authorized in real time and enabling organizations to eliminate standing privilege across AI-driven environments.
