Daily Intelligence Brief: ORBCOMM equips Evergreen Line with smart containers - October 20, 2025

ORBCOMM announced that Evergreen Line equipped its dry container fleet with smart container technology. This adoption signals a shift in the maritime industry as dry containers transition from static assets to intelligent units.

Sameer Agrawal, ORBCOMM’s CEO, said, “This move signals a broader shift in the maritime industry where dry containers are rapidly evolving from static assets into smart, connected, intelligent units.” ORBCOMM enabled over one million smart containers globally and extends this capability to Evergreen.

The technology provides enhanced cargo visibility, protection, and reliability, featuring advanced event alerts such as door openings, temperature changes, and shock detection. These features address cargo security, crew safety, and operational efficiency, essential for modern supply chains.

Agrawal elaborated, “Smart intermodal containers are no longer experimental—they are becoming the new standard.” The deployment of this technology responds to the industry's increasing demand for real-time data and operational transparency. The latest deployments utilize second-generation smart dry container technology, integrating new sensors for security and cargo integrity.
