CTIA adds Mariam Sorond to board

CTIA named Mariam Sorond, chief executive officer and board chair of NextNav, to its board of directors, effective immediately; the appointment added a NextNav executive with experience in spectrum policy and communications infrastructure to CTIA's governance.

CTIA described the change as aligned with the association's work to advance the wireless industry's commitment to driving the economy forward and delivering for the American people.

NextNav provides next-generation 3D Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) solutions intended as a widescale terrestrial complement and backup to GPS, and the company leverages licensed low-band spectrum and the global 5G ecosystem.

Sorond previously held senior positions at VMware, CableLabs, and DISH Network and served in advisory roles for the NTIA and FCC; at NextNav she held the titles of board chair and chief executive officer, and her board membership at CTIA took effect immediately.

“We are excited to add Mariam to our Board of Directors,” said CTIA President and CEO Ajit Pai. “Her experience in spectrum policy and communications infrastructure will be a great addition as we work to advance the wireless industry's commitment to driving our economy forward and delivering for the American people.”

NextNav said it focused on delivering a 3D PNT solution using licensed low-band spectrum and the global 5G ecosystem as a terrestrial complement and backup to GPS to protect national security, public safety, and the economy.
