Corning launches GlassWorks AI solutions for data centers

Corning Incorporated introduced its GlassWorks Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions, which include the new Contour Flow Cable, aimed at enhancing deployments of high-density fiber infrastructure necessary for Generative AI (GenAI) applications within data centers. This initiative addresses the increased scale and density challenges faced by operators in both data centers and interconnecting networks. The GlassWorks AI portfolio features a variety of technology solutions, highlighted by the Contour Flow Cable, which allows for double the fiber capacity within existing cable diameters. This innovation supports dense configurations essential for connecting large clusters of graphical processing units (GPUs), crucial for AI workloads. Corning states that the new cable leverages its SMF-28 Contour fiber, which is more compact and offers improved bend resilience, facilitating high-density installations. This allows data center operators to achieve greater connectivity efficiency while managing the expanding fiber requirements associated with AI technologies. Sean Kelly, Vice President and Business Director for Corning's Data Center Business Unit, noted that the solutions empower data centers to enhance reliability and performance without incurring significant infrastructure costs. The company will showcase these offerings at the upcoming Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exposition in April 2025 in San Francisco.
