Comcast expands Janus initiative with DriveNets' Network Cloud to enhance network reliability

Comcast announced its plans to expand the trial of its Janus initiative, utilizing DriveNets’ Network Cloud solution to enhance Network Virtualization (NV). The announcement follows the initial trial in Atlanta, which commenced in September 2024, marking a notable effort to virtualize and disaggregate its transport Network core. The aim is to improve flexibility, reliability, and overall performance for its Xfinity and Comcast Business customers. Elad Nafshi, Chief Network Officer at Comcast, highlighted the increasing consumer demand for data and the necessity to maintain performance standards. He stated that the expanded Janus trial will optimize Internet traffic management, enhance Network reliability, and automate Network operations across the organization. This initiative will leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to facilitate real-time data handling and problem resolution. DriveNets’ solution enables Comcast to manage Network hardware and software independently, facilitating a disaggregated approach that maximizes performance across the Network. This virtualization extends from the core to the edge, streamlining operations and enhancing customer experiences. DriveNets CEO Intelligent Decision Orchestrator (IDO) Susan noted the importance of their cloud-native software combined with AI tools for improving Network operations and expediting service delivery. The Janus initiative is expected to allow seamless scaling of Network capacity, especially for live-streaming events, and increase reliability through enhanced visibility tools. The expected outcomes include reduced operational costs through more efficient virtualized platforms and overall enhanced performance for over 64 million locations served by Comcast nationwide. Thus, the implementation of Janus reflects Comcast's ongoing commitment to improving its Network infrastructure by incorporating advanced technologies to meet burgeoning service demands effectively.
