Capgemini report reveals budget challenges in On-Demand technology spending

A new report from the Capgemini Research Institute reveals an uptick in the use of On-Demand technologies, such as public cloud, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), and Generative AI (GenAI). IT decision-makers should take note as organizations navigating this transition grapple with budget constraints and operational challenges.

Key Findings

The report highlights that around 80% of surveyed companies recognize these technologies as vital for their growth strategies. However, approximately 75% of these organizations report exceeding their public cloud budgets, averaging 10% overrun. Similar issues of overspending are evident with GenAI and SaaS, where 68% and 52% of organizations report budgetary issues, respectively.

Adoption Experiences

While companies leveraging On-Demand technologies cite benefits such as cost efficiency and acceleration of innovation processes, those with less experience in adoption tend to face increased operational issues, including excessive spending and shadow IT environments. The report suggests that only 37% of companies have effective cost management practices in place.

Recommendations for Improvement

The findings underline the necessity for organizations to enhance their cost management strategies and governance processes concerning On-Demand technologies. Implementing more robust Financial Operations (FinOps) frameworks may assist companies in better aligning their expenditures with their strategic objectives.

This summary reflects a timely overview of the core insights presented in the Capgemini report, underlining the importance of financial oversight in today's technology-driven landscape.
