Aviz Networks collaborates with SONiC Foundation's new PENS Workgroup

Aviz Networks announced Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) collaboration with the SONiC Foundation’s new Performance Optimization Engine (POE) Edge Networks with SONiC (PENS) Workgroup to deploy ITS Networking 3.0 stack. This initiative aims to enhance edge networks, delivering Service Level Agreement (SLA) (SLA)-backed support. The PENS workgroup focuses on network edge deployments to support devices, users, and access switching capabilities, such Autonomous System (AS) Power over Ethernet (POE). Interposer Technology (IT) emphasizes the benefits of open source networking to facilitate flexibility and support for multiple vendors, ultimately aiming to expand SONiC’s scalability in edge environments. Walmart's VP Dave Temkin highlighted the relevance of this workgroup during Healthcare Information System (HIS) keynote at the ONE summit. Dave Temkin stated, “75% of switches are PoE enabled. We're seeing over 700,000+ PoE ports and more than 5MW+ of PoE power delivered to devices per week.” This statistic underscores POE's role in network infrastructure and the importance of initiatives like PENS. Vishal Shukla, CEO of Aviz Networks, commented on integrating SONiC's open-source functionalities into enterprise edge environments, which facilitates improved connectivity for employees and better support for Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Homomorphic Encryption (HE) described the collaboration AS a commitment to providing efficient networking solutions to cater to diverse business needs. Arpit Joshipura from the Linux Foundation expressed pride in the PENS initiative, emphasizing the collaborative approach among stakeholders in creating scalable network solutions for edge computing. The PENS workgroup will foster innovation in enterprise edge deployments by uniting expertise from various contributors within the SONiC community. Other organizations involved in the workgroup, like Wistron and Celestica, expressed enthusiasm about their contributions to enhance the capabilities of edge networking, leveraging SONiC's approach to better serve user needs in edge cases.
