Apiiro Joins Chainguard-led Athena Coalition and Integrates Platforms
Apiiro joined Chainguard-led coalition Athena to protect open source software from AI attacks. Apiiro operates as the control plane for Agentic Development Security, and the move centered on coordinating how vulnerabilities are handled across the coalition.
Athena already processed more than 40,000 AI-discovered vulnerabilities and coordinated ecosystem-wide responses, according to the announcement. Apiiro said it was joining Athena alongside J.P. Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Cisco, Cloudflare, Akamai, Qualys, and other industry leaders.
Through the collaboration, Apiiro integrated with Chainguard’s platform and used its Risk Graph to reflect remediation status while evaluating findings against a customer’s own software architecture. The company said its Guardian Agent contributed newly discovered vulnerabilities to the broader community while alerting customers when coalition findings impacted their own software.
Apiiro also made its AutoFix free for open source maintainers, and Guardian Agent prioritized findings based on reachability across a customer’s software architecture, runtime exposure, and business impact. The announcement said Guardian Agent used AutoFix to generate contextual code fixes, validated them through automated testing, and created review-ready pull requests. “Frontier AI models are uncovering novel, chained vulnerabilities in both open source and proprietary first-party software at a pace we’ve never seen before. Discovery is no longer the biggest challenge for CISOs,” said Idan Plotnik, Co-Founder and CEO of Apiiro. “The challenge is fixing vulnerabilities quickly without disrupting business-critical applications. By joining Athena, we are bringing organizations the context they need to understand which vulnerabilities actually affect their software architecture, which pose a real risk to the business, and how to fix them automatically without breaking their software. AI alone does not secure software. Context does.”
