Advantech launches AMAX IoT Control Platform with real-time capabilities

Advantech has launched the AMAX Internet of Things (IoT) Control Platform, which integrates programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), and IoT functionalities into a unified software-defined environment. This platform aims to address the complexities of traditional automation setups by enhancing real-time performance across various manufacturing and energy applications.

By combining these functions into a single PC-based solution, AMAX leverages EtherCAT industrial Ethernet and real-time operating systems. This integration facilitates microsecond-level precision, which is essential for operations like semiconductor manufacturing and vision-integrated production systems. Built on the CODESYS framework, the platform supports both Windows and Linux runtime environments, facilitating a smooth transition from existing Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems.

Advantech’s AMAX family includes three controller categories tailored for specific applications. These range from Panel Controllers with Intel® processors for factory automation, to Industrial PC Controllers designed for complex manufacturing processes. The Embedded Controllers offer compact designs suitable for edge data acquisition. All controllers support a comprehensive EtherCAT I/O expansion, ensuring compatibility with various legacy automation systems.

Real-time performance remains a focal point of the AMAX platform, achieved through Advantech's optimization methods, integrating Intel® Time Coordinated Computing (TCC) technology. The company’s engineering team ensures optimal performance through specialized system tuning and verification processes.

AMAX Studio serves as a fully integrated software environment, streamlining device configuration, program development, and diagnostics. Its capabilities support a broad array of IoT automation devices and industrial protocols, including EtherCAT and Modbus, thereby reducing development time and costs.
