Zayo invests $90 million in Tennessee's fiber infrastructure to boost connectivity

Zayo announced a $90 million investment aimed at enhancing fiber infrastructure across Tennessee. This initiative targets key network routes, improving connectivity for data centers and educational institutions statewide, which is expected to promote economic growth and innovation in the region. The expansion includes the development of advanced network infrastructure designed to support hyperscale data center campuses and high-bandwidth workloads, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications. By reinforcing its fiber network, Zayo plans to enhance the digital capabilities necessary for the growing demand in these sectors. With Zayo's Education division based in Nashville, the investment aligns with the company’s ongoing commitment to provide robust connectivity to both urban and rural communities. Currently, Zayo equips 94% of Tennessee's school districts with managed internet and Wide Area Network (WAN) services, improving digital access for K-12 students. The new funding will allow Zayo to extend its services further, particularly benefitting underserved areas across the state. Michael McKerley, Senior Vice President of Zayo Managed Services, emphasized the significance of the investment in supporting educational needs and the state’s digital economy. This initiative follows previous infrastructure expansions from Zayo, including a recent plan to acquire Crown Castle’s fiber solutions business, and an announcement of adding over 5,000 new fiber route miles to accommodate increasing AI demands.
