Nutanix Launches Cloud Native AOS to Enhance Kubernetes Data Services
Nutanix introduces a solution for building portable cloud-native applications with robust data resiliency capabilities.
WASHINGTON -- Nutanix has unveiled its Cloud Native AOS solution, designed to extend its Enterprise storage and advanced data services to Kubernetes services and cloud-native bare-metal environments, bypassing the need for a hypervisor.
As data distribution increases, organizations are seeking a reliable method to protect, replicate, and restore data across Kubernetes infrastructures in various settings, including data center and cloud-native hyperscalers. The absence of a unified data platform that functions across bare-metal, virtual, and containerized environments has been notable.
Cloud Native AOS addresses this requirement by enabling storage and data services to operate directly on cloud-native infrastructures, whether on the cloud or bare metal. By removing the hypervisor, the solution facilitates storage management across distributed hybrid cloud environments.
This development streamlines ongoing operations for Kubernetes applications and their associated data across different environments. Cloud Native AOS further extends Nutanix’s AOS software—which supports data management, Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities—to native Kubernetes clusters.
“Nutanix has built a complete platform for enterprise-grade infrastructure with advanced data services in virtualized data centers,” said Thomas Cornely, SVP of Product Management at Nutanix. “Now we are extending the reach of our platform to users of cloud-native infrastructure on Kubernetes service in public clouds and on bare metal, delivering enterprise resiliency, day 2 operations, and security.”
Notable features include:
- Ready-to-Use Resilience: Cloud Native AOS ensures resilience for Kubernetes infrastructure by protecting containerized applications and their data.
- Cloud-Native Mobility: Users can create and deploy cloud-native applications with seamless migration capabilities.
- Integrated Data Management: The solution allows developers to use Kubernetes APIs for automating and managing data effectively.
“Networld is focused on container application runtime platforms. By utilizing Cloud Native AOS, we can enhance application portability and enable data migration and disaster recovery,” said Issei Tsuruzono, Corporate Officer and Head of Technology Division of Networld.
“Participating in the Early Access Program for Cloud Native AOS has been a great experience for us,” said Manfred Pichlbauer, IT Consultant at Bacher Systems. “This platform is designed for demanding workloads and empowers organizations to move faster and scale efficiently.”
Cloud Native AOS is currently available in early access on Amazon EKS, with General Availability (GA) anticipated this summer. Support for on-premises (on-prem) environments is expected by year's end.
“Enterprises are increasingly adopting Kubernetes for application orchestration and are challenged with integrating these cloud-native applications into existing workflows while meeting business SLAs,” said Dave Pearson, Infrastructure Research VP at IDC. “Cloud Native AOS helps close this gap by enhancing data mobility and disaster recovery for cloud-native applications.”
