Weekly Intelligence Brief on 5G and RAN Developments - Week of November 3, 2025

Key Takeaways

  • Nokia and CNT launched Ecuador's first commercial 5G network.
  • Dell’Oro Group reports flat revenues in Radio Access Network (RAN) with 6G Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) expected by 2030.
  • MITRE develops an AI-native network architecture for telecom.

Nokia and Corporación Nacional de Telecomunicaciones E.P. (CNT E.P.) launched Ecuador’s first commercial 5G network, enhancing connectivity and digital services across the country. The network reaches speeds up to 1.5 Gbps, which is ten times faster than 4G, and reduces latency, vital for applications in health, education, and smart city initiatives.

This deployment includes 188 5G sites in cities such Autonomous System (AS) Guayaquil and aligns with Ecuador's digital transformation strategy, aimed at expanding high-speed internet access nationwide by mid-2026. Ronald Spina, General Manager of CNT E.P., emphasized the historic significance of this launch, asserting that the new network will facilitate faster, more stable connectivity without increasing commercial prices.

Dell’Oro Group's recent report indicates that the RAN market is projected to maintain a flat trajectory over the next decade, with global RAN revenues experiencing minimal growth. The report highlights potential challenges in revenue generation AS investments shift toward 6G, which could account for 55 to 60 percent of RAN capital expenditures between 2029 and 2034.

MITRE Hardware Attestation Service (HAS) partnered with NVIDIA, Cerberus ODC, and Cisco to create an AI-native network architecture for 5G and 6G, focusing on enhancing spectrum agility and performance. Charles Clancy, MITRE’s senior vice president, noted the initiative’s importance for maintaining U.S. leadership in telecom. The framework aims to improve real-time management of information flow within the RAN while maximizing network efficiency.
