The AI Alliance Forms Non-profit AI Lab and AI Technology & Advocacy Association to Scale Open-Source Innovation
The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Alliance has established two non-profit organizations to support open-source development and advocacy for AI.
In an announcement, the AI Alliance disclosed the formation of a 501(c)(3) AI research and education lab and a 501(c)(6) advocacy association. These entities aim to expand project impact and enhance fundraising efforts to promote open research, education, and development in AI.
Key areas of focus include AI agents, safety and governance, as well as utilizing open data sets and models. Member organizations are collaborating to tackle challenges in specific sectors, including manufacturing, healthcare, and educational domains.
The 501(c)(3) lab will manage scientific projects enabling community experimentation, while the 501(c)(6) association will advocate for industry standards and technical policy. Both entities will be overseen by distinct boards of directors.
Anthony Annunziata, from IBM, will co-chair both organizations alongside representatives from Meta and others, ensuring diverse representation as the Alliance grows.
The AI Alliance's program steering committee, composed of members from 20 contributing organizations, will continue to guide project strategies and initiatives broadly across the AI landscape.
