TELUS and Norton launched TELUS Scam Protection, a set of features built into the My TELUS app that helps customers identify potential scams and find support when they are unsure what to trust. The companies cited AI-driven scams that are becoming more convincing and harder to detect as the reason for the offering.
Scam activity remains a measurable concern for Canadians. Canadians reported more than $704 million in fraud losses in 2025 across more than 112,000 reports to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, which estimates that only 5 to 10 per cent of frauds are reported. Between October 2025 and March 2026, scams, including phishing attempts, made up 29 per cent of SMS spam complaints submitted to the CRTC's Spam Reporting Centre.
The offering includes four features. Safe Call identifies suspicious calls, blocks those identified as scams and labels incoming calls as scams, spam or a verified business. Safe SMS reviews texts from unknown senders and flags messages that appear to be scams or phishing attempts, leaving them in the messaging app with a warning label.
Safe Email scans the inbox on the phone and labels messages that look like scams, phishing or fake invoices, and customers can connect up to five supported email accounts. AI Scam Assistant provides information on scams and cyber safety around the clock, and customers can paste text or upload screenshots of suspicious messages and links from iMessage, WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok and Facebook Messenger.
Activation requires one setup in the My TELUS app, after which the features run in the background. TELUS Scam Protection is included at no additional cost with new TELUS mobility data plans. Existing customers can access it by switching to an eligible mobility plan or by keeping their current plan and adding the service for $3 per month.
“We believe getting protected should be simple,” said Dan Quick, Vice-President of Mobility Solutions at TELUS. Joe Talbott, Head of Global Partner Sales at Norton, said, “Together with TELUS, we're making practical scam protection easier to access and use every day.”
