SUSE launches Virtualization 1.5 Prime for enterprises

SUSE Virtualization 1.5 Prime delivers an enterprise-ready virtualization lifecycle without vendor lock-in.

SUSE announced the General Availability (GA) of SUSE Virtualization 1.5 Prime, designed to enhance virtualization strategies for enterprises requiring compatibility with cloud-native environments. This release focuses on eliminating vendor lock-in and avoids disruptive upgrade paths.

The updated platform features improved release lifecycle management, flexible patching, and integration with production-grade storage. This positions SUSE Virtualization 1.5 Prime as a crucial component of enterprise virtualization strategy.

Peter Smails, SVP and GM of Cloud Native at SUSE, stated, “Enterprises today want freedom of choice, predictability, and innovation—without being locked into restrictive platforms.”

SUSE Virtualization 1.5 Prime includes notable updates such as:

  • Arm®-based Chip Support: This version offers full production-ready support for 64-bit Arm architecture, enabling enterprises to run x86 and Arm workloads side-by-side. This update aims to enhance performance and energy efficiency for applications in AI/ML, telecommunications, and edge computing.
  • Enterprise Lifecycle Management: The platform adopts a predictable four-month release cadence aligned with Kubernetes upstream, allowing consistent planning for DevOps teams. Users can upgrade directly from any patch version to the next minor release, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Data Protection Assurance: SUSE offers Certified Data Protection for Virtualization, ensuring compatibility with third-party Backup and Disaster Recovery (BDR) (DR) solutions. This certification allows for seamless integration and reliable data management across hybrid cloud environments.
  • Certified Storage Ecosystem: SUSE supports all CSI-compatible storage appliances, facilitating integration with major third-party solutions, including Dell and Oracle. This flexibility supports compliance and data protection requirements.
  • Open Architecture: Built on an open-source foundation, the solution features transparent licensing and full Application Programming Interface (API) access, giving organizations control over their technology stack.

Child Rescue Coalition (CRC), a nonprofit, employed SUSE Virtualization to enhance its mission-critical platform.
