SAS Institute Inc. released SAS AI Navigator, a standalone SaaS solution available on Microsoft Marketplace. The company positioned the product as an approach for documenting and governing AI use by compiling an inventory of AI models and aligning use cases with policies and regulations.
The release tied the move to a trust-related challenge in AI governance. It said organizations that address trust properly are more likely to see strong returns on AI, while employees may override recommendations when they cannot understand or explain decision-making.
According to the release, SAS AI Navigator supports creating visibility and accountability for AI use cases through an inventory of governed assets. The solution describes governance that extends to models and agents and the policies applied to them, and it provides a unified view of governed assets built in-house or purchased from third parties. It also said the product supports the full journey from experimentation to deployment through retirement and helps apply internal policies and external regulations and frameworks to AI use cases.
SAS said the offering will be available to SAS customers and Microsoft Marketplace users, including organizations that use SAS models or third-party tools. The release also described “policy packs” from SAS Partners, including Protiviti and Asenion, as collections of compliance guidelines that provide ready-to-use questions and risk classifications. “Trustworthy AI doesn’t happen by accident. It requires intention, transparency and the right governance structures from the start,” said Reggie Townsend, Vice President, SAS AI Ethics, Governance and Social Impact. “With SAS AI Navigator, organizations can create the visibility and accountability needed to use AI confidently, responsibly and at scale.”
Separately, the release cited Erasmus University Medical Center and the Delft University of Technology partnership for the Responsible Ethical AI in Health Care Lab, with Erasmus MC as an early tester of SAS AI Navigator. “We see real potential in SAS AI Navigator becoming a valuable tool for documenting and governing AI use within a healthcare organization,” said Dr. Michel van Genderen, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Internal Medicine Physician and Associate Professor at Erasmus University. “It’s a promising foundation for centralizing AI governance processes. The structure and intent of the tool align with what we believe is needed for policy oversight.” Forward-looking statements in the release were limited to product availability and ongoing use of the solution through its described lifecycle.
