Rigetti Computing reaches milestone in quantum computing with 36-qubit system.
Rigetti Computing, Inc. (Nasdaq: RGTI) announced reaching a milestone with its modular 36-qubit quantum system achieving 99.5% median two-qubit gate fidelity. This represents a 2x improvement in median gate error rate compared to the company’s previous 84-qubit Ankaa™-3 chip. The modular system comprises four 9-qubit chips tiled together, marking progress toward a chiplet-based system with over 100 qubits.
The 36-qubit system is set for launch on August 15, and Rigetti aims to deliver a 100+ qubit version before the end of 2025, maintaining the same median two-qubit gate fidelity. Subodh Kulkarni, the CEO, emphasized the advantages of superconducting qubits, including gate speeds over 1,000 times faster than other methods. Rigetti’s technology integrates semiconductor industry techniques, which it sees as crucial for scaling up its systems.
Rigetti has operated quantum computers over the cloud since 2017 and also offers on-premises (on-prem) systems. Its modular architecture positions the company to serve various sectors, including enterprise and governmental clients, through its Rigetti Quantum Cloud Services platform. The company manufactures its quantum chips in its dedicated facility, aiming to support the development of scalable quantum computing solutions.
