Ribbon Communications Inc. expanded its relationship with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to update the communications environment supporting New York City Transit subway, bus and paratransit services.
The MTA said its subway, bus and paratransit services accounted for nearly 1.9 billion trips in 2025, and the organizations positioned the effort as part of a modernization program for communications across the transportation network.
As part of the deployment, the MTA leveraged Ribbon’s C20 Call Controller and Application Server as a centralized platform that connects and distributes voice services to approximately 70,000 employees. The expanded deployment also added Ribbon’s G5 Media Gateway and Professional Services.
In parallel, the organizations replaced the MTA’s legacy contact center infrastructure with NUSO. Together, the solutions were described as enabling a transition from legacy TDM PBX environments to SIP-based services while preserving existing analog investments, maintaining operational continuity, and supporting improved efficiency and service delivery.
“We're proud to support the MTA with a modernization strategy that maintains operational continuity while delivering the reliability, flexibility, efficiency and future readiness it requires,” said Dave Hogan, SVP Enterprise Sales, Ribbon. “This is an important milestone in our journey together, and we look forward to continuing to advance the MTA's modernization efforts.”
Forward-looking statements in the release addressed potential future events and noted that actual results may differ from expectations.
