Who is VNNIC?
Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC) is the state agency under Vietnam’s Ministry of Information and Communications responsible for managing national internet resources and core internet infrastructure for Vietnam.
- Administration of the Vietnamese country-code top-level domain .vn (DNS infrastructure management)
- National internet addressing services, including allocation and management of IP addresses and Autonomous System Numbers (internet resource management)
- Planning, deployment, and operation of Vietnam’s national internet exchange infrastructure (network interconnection)
- Development and operation of internet-related information systems, registries, and public lookup services (registry and database services)
- Policy implementation, technical guidance, and coordination for Internet Service Providers (ISP) and related stakeholders in Vietnam (internet governance support)

More About VNNIC
Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC) operates as the national agency in charge of Vietnam’s core internet resources, serving government institutions, telecom operators, ISP, large enterprises, and other network operators that rely on stable and policy-compliant connectivity within and to Vietnam.
VNNIC manages the .vn country-code top-level domain (ccTLD), providing domain name registration services through accredited registrars and maintaining the associated Domain Name System (DNS) infrastructure (DNS services). This role covers authoritative DNS servers for .vn, DNS zone management, and support for domain lifecycle processes. For enterprises, .vn domains are used for local web presence, email, and application endpoints, and are typically integrated into broader DNS architectures alongside global domains operated by commercial registries.
VNNIC also performs allocation, registration, and management of IP address space and Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs) for organizations operating networks in Vietnam (IP resource management). This activity aligns with global internet number resource management frameworks, including IPv4 and IPv6 addressing and Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) routing using ASNs. Enterprises, data center operators, and ISPs interact with VNNIC when requesting address space and ASNs or updating registration data that underpins routing policies and network peering.
In addition, VNNIC develops and operates national internet exchange infrastructure (network interconnection), which supports traffic exchange between domestic networks and, in some cases, international peers. These Internet Exchange Points (IXP) (IXPs) contribute to routing efficiency and local traffic retention. For large content providers, cloud platforms, and telecom carriers connecting in Vietnam, interconnection through VNNIC-coordinated IXPs is part of network architecture considerations alongside private peering and upstream transit arrangements.
VNNIC maintains registry and information systems such as WHOIS or similar lookup services for .vn domains and internet number resources (registry and database services). These systems expose registration and routing-related data used by network engineers, security analysts, and compliance teams for diagnostics, incident response, and verification of resource holders. Enterprises integrate these data sources into operational workflows for threat analysis, routing validation, and asset inventory.
From a directory and marketplace perspective, VNNIC can be categorized across several domains: DNS and domain registry services for the .vn ccTLD (DNS and domain infrastructure), internet number resources allocation and registration (network addressing and resource management), national internet exchange and interconnection services (network interconnection and peering), and internet governance support and policy execution in Vietnam (regulatory and coordination services). Its services interface with standard internet protocols and frameworks such as DNS, IPv4, IPv6, BGP, and typical routing and registry data formats used across global internet infrastructure operations.
