More About Gazprom Space Systems
Gazprom Space Systems is part of the Gazprom Group and operates as a Satellite Communications (Satcom) and space services company that supports enterprise, industrial, and governmental use cases across Russia and neighboring regions. The company manages its own telecommunications satellite constellation in GEO and delivers fixed and mobile satellite connectivity to organizations that require wide-area coverage, including remote and infrastructure-poor locations relevant to the energy sector, transportation corridors, and regional administrations.
In the enterprise communications domain (satellite connectivity), Gazprom Space Systems offers capacity for corporate networks, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) backhaul, internet access, and voice and data links, typically implemented via VSAT architectures. Customers deploy satellite terminals that connect to the company’s teleports and network gateways, integrating satellite links into Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) or hybrid Wide Area Network (WAN) environments. The service supports connectivity for distributed sites such as field operations, offshore and onshore energy facilities, remote industrial assets, and mobile or temporary deployments where terrestrial networks are limited.
For media distribution (media distribution), the company provides satellite TV and radio broadcasting services used by national and regional broadcasters, content aggregators, and DTH platforms. Uplink centers and teleport infrastructure route content to the satellites, which then distribute multiplexed channels over wide coverage zones. Broadcasters integrate these services into their content delivery workflows for primary distribution to cable headends, terrestrial towers, or direct-to-home receivers.
Gazprom Space Systems also provides Earth observation and remote sensing offerings (geospatial services). Using space-based imaging platforms, the company supplies optical and related geospatial data products for applications such as land-use monitoring, infrastructure planning, environmental assessment, and mapping. These datasets can feed into GIS platforms, decision-support systems, and sector-specific analytics workflows used by public agencies, industrial companies, and research organizations.
The company operates ground segment infrastructure (satellite ground segment), including control centers for spacecraft telemetry, tracking, and control, as well as teleports with large antenna farms, RF and baseband systems, and network management platforms. These facilities support satellite fleet operations, capacity management, and integration with terrestrial fiber and IP networks. Enterprise and carrier customers interconnect through these teleports to extend their networks via satellite and to backhaul traffic to core data centers or Internet Exchange Points (IXP).
Within an enterprise technology directory, Gazprom Space Systems can be positioned across satellite connectivity services, media distribution services, and geospatial data services. Its offerings align with categories such as network and connectivity infrastructure (satellite WAN and VSAT), content distribution and broadcast transport, and Earth observation data for GIS and analytics workflows, all anchored by owned satellite assets and associated ground infrastructure.
