More About FirstLight
FirstLight provides fiber-based communications, cloud, and data center services that enterprises, government entities, healthcare organizations, educational institutions, and carriers use to support production IT environments, branch and campus connectivity, and interconnection between sites and cloud resources. Its footprint centers on a regional fiber optic network that connects customer locations to FirstLight facilities and to other carrier and cloud on-ramps.
In networking (connectivity), FirstLight delivers Ethernet services, internet access, wavelength services, and private network options over its fiber infrastructure. These services are typically used for Wide Area Network (WAN) architectures, including point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, and mesh topologies between data centers, headquarters, and distributed offices. Standard carrier and enterprise protocols such as Ethernet, Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), and IP are associated with these offerings, allowing integration with routers, firewalls, and Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) platforms in existing network architectures.
In data center and colocation services (data center and hosting), FirstLight offers space, power, and cooling for customer-owned equipment along with physical security and connectivity options. Customers use these facilities for primary production environments, secondary DR sites, and interconnection with FirstLight’s network and cloud services. Typical deployments include racks or cages housing servers, storage arrays, and network appliances, with diverse fiber paths and redundant power feeds designed to support high availability objectives defined by enterprise IT policies.
In cloud and virtual infrastructure services (cloud infrastructure), FirstLight provides compute and storage resources hosted in its data centers, enabling customers to run virtual machines and applications without managing underlying physical hardware. These services align with Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and hosted private cloud models and are often integrated with VPNs or private Ethernet circuits from customer premises. This setup supports latency-sensitive workloads, regional data residency requirements, or hybrid cloud strategies in which enterprises combine FirstLight-hosted infrastructure with public cloud platforms.
FirstLight also offers managed services (managed IT and communications), which can include managed network devices, security services, and voice or unified communications delivered over its network. Enterprises and institutions use these managed offerings to offload day-to-day operations such as monitoring, incident response at the infrastructure level, configuration changes, and capacity planning. The combination of fiber connectivity, colocation, cloud infrastructure, and managed services positions FirstLight in marketplace categories spanning telecommunications carriers, regional data center providers, and managed service providers focused on network-centric workloads and institutional requirements.
