More About EWE
EWE AG operates as a regional multi-utility provider with a portfolio that spans electricity, gas, and telecommunications services, positioning the company as an infrastructure partner for enterprises, public institutions, and municipal utilities in its service areas.
In electricity, EWE covers multiple parts of the value chain, from generation through distribution grids to retail supply contracts, so enterprise and institutional customers can source power and grid connection services under integrated arrangements that align with local regulatory frameworks in Germany.
The company also supplies natural gas to commercial and industrial customers and supports grid-based delivery through gas network infrastructure, enabling customers to bundle electricity and gas procurement where contracts and regulatory conditions allow.
Telecommunications is a further business pillar, where EWE provides fixed-line broadband, IP-based telephony, and Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) or fiber-to-the-building connectivity (broadband connectivity) to households and businesses, giving enterprise customers access to data connections suitable for VPNs, cloud access, and location networking.
EWE invests in fiber-optic network expansion and operates core and access networks that rely on standard IP, Ethernet, and optical transmission technologies, which enterprises can integrate into their own network architectures for Wide Area Network (WAN), Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) overlays, and secure remote access.
In the area of energy services, EWE offers solutions such as efficiency consulting, smart metering (metering and data services), Distributed Generation (DG) concepts, and in some cases local energy solutions for properties or campuses, allowing organizations to address consumption transparency, load management, and compliance with energy regulations.
The company also engages in projects related to renewable energy generation and grid integration, including wind energy and other sources where applicable, aligning with German and European energy transition frameworks and supporting customers that seek electricity from renewable-based contracts.
EWE works with municipalities and regional partners on infrastructure planning, construction, and operation, which can include electricity and gas distribution grids as well as fiber networks, so city administrations and public utilities can coordinate urban development, digitalization projects, and public services such as schools, administration buildings, and connected facilities.
From a marketplace and taxonomy perspective, EWE can be classified across multiple categories: energy utilities (electricity and gas supply), network infrastructure operators (distribution grids), and telecommunications service providers (broadband connectivity and fiber access), with complementary activities in energy services, smart metering, and regional infrastructure projects.
