Proofpoint MSP Platform, the business unit of Proofpoint, Inc. that serves managed service providers and small and mid-sized businesses, is releasing new Microsoft 365 security capabilities. The updates are designed to help organizations and managed service providers establish security foundations for AI adoption.
AI readiness depends on the data, permissions and communication channels that AI tools can access. Overly broad permissions and unclear sharing settings do not originate with AI, but its use can amplify their impact.
The 365 Permission Manager shows access and sharing structures across SharePoint, OneDrive and Microsoft Teams and lets administrators control and adjust them. The new Tenant Risk Exposure functionality adds a visual overview of permission and sharing risks across M365 tenants, with dashboard widgets covering anonymous access, external users, organization-wide permissions, public groups, inactive guests and orphaned accounts. It also provides shortcuts for manual or automatic remediation and a status report.
Explainability in Email Live Tracking helps security teams understand why an email may be considered suspicious or legitimate, aiding review of rare false positives. The AI-powered Security Awareness Service now extends automated, adaptive training to Microsoft Teams through AI.MY, which contacts employees after an e-learning session, asks three tailored questions and provides immediate feedback. The AI Cyber Assistant Agent in the Control Panel offers product assistance for onboarding and configuration.
“Many organizations are currently considering which AI solutions to deploy. Just as important, however, is which data and communication channels these technologies will interact with. Overly broad permissions, unclear sharing settings or a lack of confidence among employees do not arise because of AI, but its use can amplify their impact. Organizations therefore need to build AI readiness on strong security foundations,” said Daniel Hofmann, GM & EVP, Proofpoint MSP Platform.
“Our new security capabilities for organizations using M365 help address this need by improving visibility and control, making security decisions easier to understand and supporting more effective security awareness. This gives organizations a stronger basis for adopting AI while managing the risks of an increasingly connected digital workplace,” said Daniel Hofmann. The updates are scheduled to roll out in Q4 2026.
