Platform9, an enterprise private cloud company, has been named a Major Player in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Private Cloud Infrastructure Software Platforms 2026-2027 Vendor Assessment. The designation places the company among vendors evaluated for private cloud infrastructure software.
The assessment weighs vendors on current capabilities and on future strategy for delivering that software. The recognition arrives as enterprises show growing demand for a modern, lightweight private cloud that pairs operational simplicity and infrastructure flexibility with an open-standard model of sovereignty.
The evaluation covers compute, storage, networking, cloud automation, security, and compliance frameworks for regulated workloads. Platform9's Private Cloud Director lets enterprises and service providers run virtualized and Kubernetes-based workloads through a familiar cloud operating model, while keeping flexibility across hardware, storage, and networking choices. The company, founded by VMware veterans, helps organizations modernize private cloud infrastructure without proprietary hardware, disruptive replatforming, or extensive retraining.
Platform9 can support migrations from VMware without access to the Virtual Disk Development Kit (VDDK), a capability the company contrasts with most alternatives. Through its vJailbreak offering, Platform9 provides a 60-day guarantee: if an agreed production milestone is not met within the first 60 days of a VM migration, organizations may withdraw at no cost and without ongoing obligation.
“The cloud infrastructure management market is undergoing a major transformation, with many firms seeking to migrate virtualized workloads to more flexible alternatives to their incumbent options,” said Nicole Silva, Vice President of Marketing at Platform9.
Silva said that “Heightened concerns around data sovereignty and other emerging compliance mandates have further complicated this process – and have in turn uniquely positioned Platform9's Private Cloud Director as a preferred option to support these transformations.”
