Nokia partners with ST Engineering for Bangkok MRT communications upgrade
Nokia partnered with ST Engineering and First One Systems to implement an IP/MPLS-based Backbone Transmission Network (BTN) for Bangkok’s new Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Orange Line. This deployment aims to improve operational efficiency and safety for passengers and supports various railway applications.
The project, anticipated to conclude by 2030, will provide Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited (BEM) with a high-capacity, low-latency network backbone. Nokia’s IP/MPLS solution is designed for critical railway communications, addressing needs such as CCTV surveillance and public announcements.
With a length of 35.9 km, the Orange Line will connect the east and west sides of Bangkok and includes both underground and elevated sections. Key personnel involved emphasized the importance of collaboration in executing large-scale projects and the application of advanced technological solutions to meet the requirements of modern railway systems.
