KnowBe4 introduces custom deepfake training

KnowBe4 introduced a custom deepfake training experience designed to help organizations address risks from AI-generated media such as fraudulent video conferences and AI-powered phishing attacks, noting that simulated exercises aimed to improve recognition of manipulated content.

The company cited growing use of deepfakes for fraud, disinformation and reputational harm and referenced industry findings that linked deepfakes to one in five biometric fraud attempts and recorded a 40% year-over-year rise in injection attacks, while its own State of Human Risk 2025 report found 32% of cybersecurity leaders reported a spike in related incidents.

The offering allowed cybersecurity and IT teams to create tailored simulations featuring organizational leaders so learners could observe realistic social-engineering scenarios and receive clear guidance on detection; administrators created and approved each simulation to govern use and to surface narrative inconsistencies and other cues in manipulated media.

Several anonymous customers completed the training and provided feedback about the program's real-world examples and messaging, including scenarios that used deepfakes of executives to demonstrate how convincing AI-powered social engineering could be.

“Deepfakes represent a seismic shift in the threat landscape, weaponizing AI to impersonate authority, exploit trust, and short-circuit the human decision-making process,” said Perry Carpenter, chief human risk management strategist at KnowBe4. “Our new deepfake training strengthens the workforce's instincts by providing a safe, tightly controlled environment for learning. All simulations are created and approved by administrators, ensuring ethical use while helping employees recognize narrative red flags, subtle performance inconsistencies, and other cues that manipulated media can reveal. Awareness and preparedness remain our strongest defenses, and we are committed to equipping organizations with practical, measurable skills to stay ahead of these emerging threats.” “This was efficient and effective in getting the message across to our executives about what deepfakes are and how to properly deal with them using our inhouse protocols,” said an anonymous customer. “Very informative content with real world examples and definitions helps better understand how deepfakes can affect one's life and the risks they create. Thank you for keeping us alert!” said an anonymous customer.
