InterDigital and NHK planned a joint VVC Multilayer demonstration at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam in September 2026. The companies said the work focused on VVC enhancements that related to video delivery performance in streaming and broadcast scenarios.
The demonstration covered two aspects of the VVC Multilayer Main 10 profile: content overlay and spatial/quality scalability. InterDigital and NHK said the demonstration used a VVC multilayer software decoder, and it aligned with a VVC multilayer coding verification test published in April 2026 as MPEG document AG 5 N208.
The companies described an approach where NHK showed content layering that enabled content personalization. They said VVC multilayer and MPEG-H 3D audio coding coordinated switching of video and audio, and users could select between a base layer experience and an enhancement layer that included added content such as captions or sign language translations.
In parallel, MC-IF members including InterDigital planned demonstrations at the MC-IF booth in Hall 2.B13. The organizations said the work would present new VVC features and capabilities through MC-IF, with the collaboration framed around the industry moving from development and early ecosystem experimentation to commercial deployment at national scale in countries like Brazil.
