IBM makes IBM Bob available for SDLC orchestration and security
IBM said it made IBM Bob available globally as an AI-first development partner for software teams. The company framed Bob as a way to support planning, coding, testing, deployment, and modernization while adding governance and security controls across the software development lifecycle.
IBM Bob was built for enterprise use cases that include modernization, security, and new development work, according to the release. IBM also said the platform had already been deployed internally and that surveyed IBM users reported productivity gains tied to modernization, security, and new development tasks.
The release described Bob as an agentic platform with role-based orchestration and governed workflows. IBM said it includes prompt normalization, sensitive data scanning, real-time policy enforcement, and AI red-teaming within the development workflow, along with auditability via BobShell to create self-documenting processes. It also described a multi-model orchestration approach that routes tasks based on accuracy, performance, and cost.
IBM said Bob launched inside IBM in June 2025 with 100 developers and that it reached use by more than 80,000 IBM employees. It cited survey results including a 45% average productivity gain, plus specific task measurements from Instana and Maximo teams. For external examples, it listed Ernst & Young, Blue Pearl, and APIS IT, and it said IBM Bob is generally available as a SaaS offering with a complimentary 30-day trial, while on-premises deployment was targeted for the future for organizations with data residency or regulatory requirements.
“Every business is racing to modernize. But speed without control and transparency is a liability. IBM Bob is how enterprises can move at AI speed without sacrificing the governance and security needs their businesses require. Bob was engineered by developers inside IBM for the millions like them worldwide, and it's the foundation on which enterprises will become truly AI-first.” said Dinesh Nirmal, Senior Vice President, IBM Software. “Developers need a system that understands the full context of their work and can act on it. That's what we built with Bob. It's an agentic platform that embeds an AI partner into every role across the SDLC, from the architect sketching a design to the security engineer reviewing code before it ships. We built Bob around a simple belief: model capability alone isn't enough. How you deploy it, how you structure context, and how you keep humans in the loop is what determines whether AI actually delivers. With Bob, we're helping developers to automate the mundane, and augment the complicated.” said Neel Sundaresan, General Manager, Automation & AI, IBM Software. “Working with IBM through Bob…enabled us to deliver measurable value.” said Saireshan Govender, Group CEO, Blue Pearl. “Bob migrated our complex .NET services in hours instead of weeks.” said Veran Pokornić, Solution Architect, APIS IT.
