IBM said it introduced self-hosted deployment for IBM Bob, an agentic software development platform. The change is designed to let organizations run AI development capabilities in controlled environments without moving code, data, or workflows outside their infrastructure.
In the release, IBM tied the option to security and compliance needs that can constrain use of public AI platforms when source code, regulated data, or mission-critical infrastructure is involved. IBM also referenced a Futurum Research projection that hybrid and edge deployments would capture 44% of the AI infrastructure market by 2030, with public cloud share projected to decline to 46%.
IBM Bob is described as supporting AI software development and modernization, with a self-hosted version intended for cases where data residency, security policies, AI governance, and software development workflows require customer-managed control. The release said the approach allows enterprises to deploy capabilities where code, application context, and data already reside, including in air-gapped environments, using supported models on premises or hybrid configurations connecting to supported external model services.
IBM said enterprises can evaluate additional details for self-hosted options via a published announcement page. Neel Sundaresan, GM of AI and Automation, IBM, said, “The future of enterprise AI will depend on security, governance and sovereignty,” and added that “Bob's self-hosted deployment provides a way for enterprises to bring agentic AI directly to those environments so they can benefit from the technology while maintaining security, compliance, and operational control.” The release also cited an IBM Institute for Business Value report that 68% of surveyed executives said meeting data residency and sovereignty requirements across geographies is challenging.
