Huawei's 5G-A Developments at MWC Shanghai 2025
During MWC Shanghai 2025, Huawei presented developments in 5G Advanced (5G-A) experience monetization and AI-enabled services. The company titled its exhibition “Accelerating the Intelligent World,” focusing on discussions with global carriers and industry partners about creating value with Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Huawei's showcase included advancements in three key areas:
In services, Huawei announced progress on several 5G-A monetization and AI application projects in coordination with China's three major carriers. For infrastructure, the firm introduced its AI Ultra-Broadband (AI UBB) solution, which spans all network layers, emphasizing built-in computing power and performance enhancements. In operations, Huawei and the carriers discussed achievements in intelligent wireless network and home broadband operations.
Commercial adoption of 5G-A is projected to pick up in 2025, particularly in China, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific, where carriers are evaluating experience monetization models.
Eric Xu, Huawei's Deputy Chairman, provided a keynote on growth opportunities in the telecom sector, stating, “After nearly four decades of rapid growth, the industry has entered a period of steady development, while facing some challenges to new growth.” He identified four pathways to potential growth, including adapting to changing user demands and enhancing video services.
Xu emphasized that pathways to growth vary by carrier based on their distinct markets and competitive environments, noting Huawei's commitment to helping carriers explore tailored opportunities.
China has positioned itself as a leader in 5G-A, now available in over 300 cities, with plans offered across more than 30 provinces and over 10 million users to date. The country and other regions are investigating new frameworks for experience monetization through premium upgrade initiatives.
The communications sector is adapting to changes driven by AI. Carriers are utilizing AI to modify services, infrastructure, and operations, creating opportunities for growth.
In the smart home sector, carriers are enhancing services by improving smart device integration. They are also entering the in-vehicle services market by combining AI agents with Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technologies.
