Huawei introduces two fiber sensing solutions
Huawei unveiled two fiber sensing solutions during MWC Barcelona 2026 that target monitoring of belt conveyor idlers and tracking of pipeline pigs, developments the company presented as intended to bring intelligence to specific industrial operations.
The company described operational problems the solutions address: idler failures on belt conveyors can cause belt misalignment, breakage, friction-induced combustion and other accidents, and traditional inspections based on manual listening along conveyor lines were described as inefficient and prone to missed detections. For pipeline inspection, Huawei noted that Pipeline pig tracking had relied on manual monitoring at fixed points and that locating a stuck pig could take several hours, producing large economic losses.
For conveyor lines, Huawei said the fiber sensing for conveyor idler health prediction solution detected abnormal idler sounds and reproduced those sounds using algorithms, with a reported missed alarm rate of less than 1% and an accuracy rate above 90%. For pipelines, Huawei said the fiber sensing for Pipeline Pig tracking solution used distributed fiber sensing to identify pipeline pig signals, detect the pig's running path in real time and report alarms quickly, shortening fault locating time from hours to minutes.
Huawei described work with customers and partners to integrate the fiber sensing solutions into industry scenarios and said it was expanding the applications of these intelligent fiber sensing offerings across the use cases cited in its presentation at MWC Barcelona 2026.
The company said it was accelerating the arrival of a new Edge Resource Allocator (ERA) of intelligent inspection.
