H.R.H. Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman attends Cisco's and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology's (KAUST) launch of landmark AI Institute to accelerate AI research, development and talent in Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia established a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) Institute through a collaboration between Cisco and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), under the guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz. The initiative aims to enhance AI research, development, and education in alignment with national objectives outlined in Vision 2030.
Located on the KAUST campus, the Institute will focus on applied research in areas such as AI-native communication systems and intelligent infrastructures for future industries. It will also address critical public-interest sectors, including water resources, energy, and health.
KAUST President Sir Edward Byrne AC noted the partnership with Cisco has been pivotal in realizing the University's vision since its inception. He stated the new Institute is essential for preparing students for future jobs and aligns with Saudi Arabia's efforts to lead in scientific and technological education.
Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins emphasized the importance of upskilling the workforce to achieve the potential economic benefits of AI. The Institute will include Cisco's AI POD, which supports building AI infrastructures efficiently.
This initiative builds on Cisco's broader strategy of digital transformation in the region, including a commitment to upskill 500,000 learners in Saudi Arabia over five years in various technology fields.
A governing board comprising representatives from both Cisco and KAUST will oversee the Institute, ensuring collaborative efforts toward enhancing AI capabilities in the Kingdom.
