SMART Modular Technologies launches Non-Volatile CXL Memory Module

SMART Modular Technologies has launched the Non-Volatile Compute Express Link (CXL) Memory Module (NV-CMM), designed for demanding data center environments. The module supports the CXL 2.0 standard, combining high-performance DRAM with persistent flash memory in a removable EDSFF form factor. Marketed to Tier 1 OEMs, the module aims to enhance system performance and data persistence. It features onboard backup power to preserve critical data during outages, which can improve system reliability in High performance computing (HPC) and real-time analytics. The NV-CMM integrates advanced connectivity with PCI Express (PCIe) Gen 5 compliance, ensuring compatibility with current data center architectures. This module enables faster Virtual Machine (VM) restarts and more efficient write Caching, addressing the needs of cloud infrastructures and big data applications. Evaluation samples of the NV-CMM are available for Enterprise customers and system integrators. Industry experts acknowledge the potential of NV-CMMs in meeting the demands for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) applications, citing its role as a high-speed cache that could improve storage system performance.
