Chemours partners with NTT DATA and Hibiya Engineering for Opteon 2P50 trial

Chemours Company, in collaboration with NTT DATA and Hibiya Engineering, has initiated a full-scale trial for its Opteon 2P50 immersion cooling technology. This trial reflects Chemours' commitment to addressing the energy efficiency challenges in data center, particularly as demands from High performance computing (HPC) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) increase.

The upcoming product trial builds on previous lab successes and aims to develop cooling strategies utilizing Chemours’ advanced dielectric fluid, Opteon 2P50. The project is part of the commercialization process, featuring lab trials and equipment specification leading to potential commercial agreements.

“We are pleased to partner with Chemours and the broader data center value chain to accelerate the practical application of liquid and immersion cooling technologies through this field trial,” said Kouhei Kurotaki, Deputy Manager of Technology Consulting Division at NTT DATA Japan. He emphasized the importance of this trial in addressing heating and energy use challenges for data center.

This field trial will involve various stakeholders in the data center sector, including operators, manufacturers, engineering firms, IT vendors, and research institutions. Izabela Jasinska, Liquid Cooling Venture Leader at Chemours, noted the collaboration as a significant opportunity to mitigate the data center energy and water crisis while enhancing operational performance and sustainability.

Opteon 2P50 has an ultra-low global warming potential and offers superior performance compared to typical cooling methods, significantly reducing energy and water usage. Chemours’ involvement in this trial confirms its dedication to sustainable practices in Data Center Operations (DCO).
