Commvault said Alex Levy, chief information security officer at BNSF Railway, was named the inaugural TIME + Commvault CISO of the Year. The award ties the recognition to how CISOs apply security leadership in resilience operations.
The organizations described the program as a branded CISO of the Year initiative launched in March 2026, with the inaugural summit for finalists held in Miami in July. Commvault said the selection followed evaluation by the company and reflected a focus on how CISOs handle expanding security responsibilities alongside AI adoption and automated threats.
Commvault outlined that Levy’s approach was grounded in resilience operations (ResOps) and brought together cybersecurity, technology risk, business continuity, and recovery at enterprise AI speed. The release also said the model included continuous readiness testing and shared accountability across teams.
Levy led a team of cybersecurity, AI, and software engineers through bnsf | tech, a BNSF division. Bill O’Connell, chief security officer at Commvault, said the recognition reflected Levy’s approach to an active, unified way for BNSF to protect and recover at machine speed. Levy said BNSF plays a role in powering the U.S. economy and strengthening supply chains, adding that protecting systems and data is tied to economic resilience and national security.
