Broadcom Inc. signed a 10-year agreement with NTT DOCOMO, INC. to continue developing the private cloud behind DOCOMO's digital services over the next decade. The arrangement is intended to help DOCOMO keep delivering reliable services as business conditions shift, including wider use of AI and more sophisticated cyberattacks.
The two companies have worked together since 2019, when VMware, now part of Broadcom, began building and operating DOCOMO's private cloud around VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF). The new agreement extends that collaboration by aligning the companies' long-term technology roadmaps to strengthen DOCOMO's service infrastructure.
The contract covers licenses, technical assistance, and maintenance support for VMware products, including VCF, VMware Avi Load Balancer, VMware vDefend, VMware Tanzu Platform, and VCF Forte Support, along with Support Account Manager and Technical Account Manager services. According to the companies, it is Broadcom Japan's first 10-year comprehensive agreement of this type, as of October 20, 2026.
The work spans three areas. Continuous availability relies on upgrades and maintenance performed without service interruptions, along with unified management of servers, storage, and networking. Security measures draw on timely patching, predictive anomaly detection, and AIOps visibility. Automated development and release processes are intended to shorten service rollout cycles and support virtual machines and containers on a common platform.
Hiroshi Ishimaru, General Manager of the Service Design Department at NTT DOCOMO, INC., said, “At DOCOMO, we are enhancing our service infrastructure to ensure the stability and security that allow customers to use our digital services with peace of mind, while enabling it to respond flexibly and quickly to changes in technology and the market.”
Looking ahead, the companies plan to evolve DOCOMO's service infrastructure into a next-generation platform combining virtual machines, containers, and AI, while adopting new technologies as developments such as 6G and IOWN take shape.
