Aviz Service Node details KPIs for latency and bandwidth monitoring
Aviz Service Node (ASN) offers a method to transform packet data into key performance indicators (KPIs) like latency and bandwidth, which are critical for monitoring network efficiency across varied environments including data centers and telecommunications. Gaining insight into these KPIs can assist enterprise IT and security teams in improving application performance and overall network visibility.
Supported KPIs and Their Measurement
Autonomous System Number (ASN) captures KPIs such as session-based packet statistics—including total packets and bytes per direction—alongside precise latency measurements from User Equipment (UE) to network endpoints with nanosecond accuracy. Bandwidth is determined by calculating the maximum data transfer rates in bytes per second, which reflect network capacity and congestion levels. Timestamping is handled either through existing network sources or by injecting precise timestamps, facilitating accurate interval analyses.
KPI Calculation Process
Metrics are computed over rolling 5-second windows and streamed in real-time to Kafka topics to support immediate analysis. If a session terminates before the window completes, partial metrics are promptly dispatched to priority streams to maintain timeliness without sacrificing accuracy. All Key Performance indicator (KPI) events include timestamps to enable detailed time-series and correlation investigations.
KPIs Application Scope
The system supports bandwidth, uplink and downlink latency, retransmit counts, and total packet and byte counts at multiple granularity levels including per session, per application, and per region. This approach allows network operators to monitor performance comprehensively across different network segments and uses.
Operational Implications of Latency and Bandwidth Optimization
Reducing latency enhances the responsiveness of interactive applications, while adequate bandwidth supports high-demand workloads without interruptions. Improved communication quality benefits Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP), gaming, and financial transaction applications. Additionally, optimized KPIs contribute to more efficient cloud resource access, scalability, and consistent operational reliability, which collectively support mission-critical productivity.
ASN's capability to deliver detailed and timely KPIs provides network operators with the data necessary to identify delays, optimize throughput, and strengthen network dependability across next-generation infrastructures.
