Astera Labs, Inc. introduced an expanded Aries 7 PCIe 7 signal conditioning portfolio covering smart retimers, smart redrivers, cable modules, smart optical drivers, and optical transimpedance amplifiers. The update addresses PCIe 7 connectivity needs described in the release, including links that span copper and optical interconnects.
The release said multi-rack AI clusters require more bandwidth between accelerators, memory pools, and networking ports, and that higher PCIe data rates reduce signal margins. It added that unstable links can idle costly accelerators, and that production deployments had involved assembling multi-vendor firmware and software and repeating board design and validation work.
Aries 7 is described as supporting connectivity across chip-down solutions, smart cable modules, and copper and optical links. The portfolio includes smart retimers and smart redrivers aligned with the OCP Signal Conditioner Standard Footprint and smart optical drivers and optical TIAs for low power and high density near package optics and linear pluggable optics, with monitoring and diagnostics unified under the COSMOS software suite.
Sampling for Aries 7 Smart Retimers, Smart Redrivers, Smart Cable Modules, and Smart Optical Drivers and TIAs was expected to begin in Q4 2026 for selected hyperscale, OEM, and NPO customers, with broader availability anticipated after platform qualification. Astera Labs planned PCIe 7 copper and optical demonstrations next week at the 2026 Open Compute Project Global Summit, Oct. 12-15 in San Jose.
“The real question for architects isn't retimer vs redriver, or copper vs optical: it's whether they have one comprehensive toolbox with the optionality to pick the right tool for their evolving reach, density and power requirements,” said Adit Narasimha, senior vice president, Signal Connectivity Group at Astera Labs. “That is what we built with Aries: the same intelligence and the same software, for the solution the link needs.”
Forward-looking statements in the release addressed expected capabilities, performance, reach, benefits, sampling timing, availability, qualification, customer adoption, and market opportunity for the Aries 7 Smart Signal Conditioning portfolio.
