NVIDIA, in collaboration with Booz Allen, Cisco, MITRE, ODC, and T-Mobile, introduced America’s first AI-native wireless stack for 6G, showcasing advanced applications that will support future Artificial Intelligence (AI) traffic demands. The announcement occurred during the GTC event in Washington, D.C.

This AI-native stack integrates AI across hardware, software, and architecture to allow wireless networks to handle billions of connections efficiently. It prepares networks for increased AI traffic driven by cameras, Augmented Reality (AR) glasses, robots, and autonomous vehicles.

Key features of the system include multimodal integrated sensing and communications capabilities, which enhance public safety applications and improve spectrum management through AI-driven spectrum agility. This system increases efficiency and ensures seamless connectivity, which is crucial as telecommunications advance from 5G to 6G.

Ronnie Vasishta, senior vice president of telecom at NVIDIA, noted, “6G is being built from the ground up with AI at its core — unlocking extreme spectral efficiency.” The stack combines various technologies, integrating NVIDIA's AI Aerial platform with 5G software components from Cisco and ODC, alongside applications developed by MITRE and Booz Allen.

In a first for the U.S., NVIDIA and its partners performed a user-to-user phone call over the new network within six months of launching the AI-WIN project. This collaborative effort aims to set foundational standards for 6G wireless technology.

Additionally, the new stack offers opportunities for telecom operators to generate new revenue streams. The software-defined architecture supports advanced capabilities like an AI-powered spectrum sensing application that identifies and mitigates network interference in real-time.

Booz Allen presented its solution, known as R.AI.DIO, which detects and classifies signal interference, enhancing network integrity. The new AI-native stack provides a comprehensive framework designed for third-party applications, allowing for the integration of additional functionalities as the market evolves.
