Kong Inc. unveils MCP gateway and Volcano SDK at API Summit 2025
Kong Inc. unveiled new solutions at Application Programming Interface (API) Summit 2025 to assist enterprises in adopting the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and agentic Artificial Intelligence (AI) development. This includes enhanced capabilities in its AI Gateway and a new Developer Portal designed to streamline the use of MCP tools and applications.
The updated AI Gateway introduces features such as consistent MCP server autogeneration and centralized authentication, which allow for improved productivity and security. Users can now secure all MCP servers through a single portal, enforcing security policies consistently across various systems.
Additionally, Kong launched the Volcano Software Development Kit (SDK), aimed at simplifying the creation of MCP-powered AI agents. Volcano offers a framework for developers to build, test, and deploy applications, promoting integration with APIs and other AI systems within the Kong ecosystem.
Marco Palladino, CTO and Co-Founder of Kong Inc., noted the importance of infrastructure in realizing the potential of agentic AI. He indicated that while MCP serves as a backbone for such workflows, it poses challenges in security and performance, which the new features address.
The Volcano SDK is accessible as an open-source project on GitHub, offering developers tools necessary for advanced AI integrations. This release underscores Kong's approach to empowering development teams working with AI technologies and workflows.
