HAProxy Technologies Launches HAProxy Unified Gateway to Simplify Kubernetes Traffic Management

Public beta of free open-source gateway provides unified, high-performance, Kubernetes-native routing for both Gateway Application Programming Interface (API) and Ingress

HAProxy Technologies announced the public beta release of the HAProxy Unified Gateway, an open-source product designed to streamline traffic management across Kubernetes using both modern Gateway API and legacy Ingress standards. The announcement was made during KubeCon + CloudNativeCon North America 2025, where the company served as a Diamond sponsor.

“HAProxy Unified Gateway is a great solution for open-source users who need a flexible, performant, and reliable way to route external traffic to Kubernetes applications,” said Dujko Radovnikovic, CEO of HAProxy Technologies. This new solution offers organizations a clear migration path from Ingress to the Gateway API framework, allowing for improved operational efficiency.

The Unified Gateway addresses the limitations of the Kubernetes Ingress standard, which has been widely used but lacks support for diverse protocols and has restrictions that can complicate management. By contrast, the Gateway API aims to resolve these issues, providing robust architecture for sophisticated operations and easier scaling.

Key features of the beta version include support for Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and HTTP/S traffic, enabling teams to manage a broader range of applications, including legacy workloads. The gateway also implements Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), allowing distinct operational roles and responsibilities which reduces management risk.

Built on the well-established HAProxy core, the Unified Gateway is capable of handling significant traffic loads, with performance metrics showcasing the ability to process over two million HTTPS requests per second using AWS infrastructure. The reliance on a mature open-source foundation ensures that the tool maintains high performance and reliability.

HAProxy Unified Gateway remains a free product for the Kubernetes community, with plans for further enhancements and an enterprise-scale implementation to be integrated into the HAProxy One platform in 2026. This future version is expected to offer centralized traffic management solutions for multi-cluster environments.
