Fibocom Unveils AI Dongle for Edge AI Applications
Fibocom introduced its Artificial Intelligence (AI) Dongle, designed to enhance edge AI capabilities for devices including Process Control Systems (PCS) and Network Attached Storage (NAS). The dongle provides mobile AI computing power, enabling real-time inference for applications such as question-and-answer assistants and meeting summarization.
The device, powered by the Qualcomm® QCS6490 processor, is compact, USB-powered, and driver-free, allowing for easy integration with any USB-enabled device. By facilitating local data processing, it addresses concerns related to data privacy and energy efficiency, making it suitable for applications like smart meetings.
The AI Dongle enables offline multi-language translation and automatic meeting summaries when attached to Process Control System (PCS). It also offers advantages for developers by reducing reliance on expensive AI workstations, allowing for faster creation of AI-enhanced tools in image processing and video editing.
When connected to NAS devices, the AI Dongle contributes dedicated AI processing capabilities for smart home scenarios, including local video analysis for facial recognition and behavior detection. This setup supports small and medium-sized enterprises by enhancing secure content management and intelligent data categorization.
Fibocom plans to expand the AI Dongle's functionality through upcoming demo applications and support for open-source frameworks, facilitating the development and deployment of AI applications. Willson Liu, General Manager of Fibocom’s AI Security Business Unit, emphasized that the AI Dongle aims to broaden AI adoption in intelligent devices, enhancing user experience with a portable and scalable solution.
